Balkan Bakery’s Role in the Film
At Balkan Bakery, we’ve always strived to be more than just a bakery. We see ourselves as a bridge between cultures, bringing authentic Balkan flavors to La Grange while creating a warm, welcoming space for everyone.
When LemonTown Films approached us to be part of the documentary, we were thrilled. It was an opportunity to share our story—how our founder Olja Igic started the bakery in 2007 with just a suitcase and a recipe book, and how we’ve grown into a beloved local business under the leadership of Marija Pejkovic.
The filmmakers captured the heart and soul of Balkan Bakery, from the careful preparation of our traditional pastries to the smiles of our loyal customers. They documented the little moments that make our bakery special: the aroma of freshly baked burek, the artistry of decorating a Kinder cake, and the joy of sharing a slice of Bajadera pralines with friends.
